The Smithfield Lions Club has enjoyed a long and proud partnership with the Sox, running the beloved concession stand at the ballpark for many years. Their claim to local fame is the iconic “Lion Pups” corn dogs—a community favorite since 1953.

The name itself has a charming origin. Ruth S. Hansen, mother of Richard Hansen and a devoted member of Lions Clubs International, looked at those freshly made corn dogs back in 1953 and said, “We should call them Lion Pups.” And just like that, the name stuck.

Traditionally served with the stand’s signature blend of ketchup and mustard, Lion Pups originally sold for just five cents. Even today, you can only get them in one special place: The Lions Stand at the ballpark, where tradition, community, and great memories come together.
